SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK

DAY 1 - Johannesburg / Lusaka / Mfuwe
Depart Johannesburg today on your flight to Lusaka Zambia arriving just after lunch time. When you arrive representative from the charter company will meet you and transfer you onto a light aircraft flight to Mfuwe. At Mfuwe International Airport, a representative from the Bushcamp Company / Mfuwe Lodge will meet you and take you in an open land rover to Mfuwe Lodge.

The wonderful Mfuwe Lodge is one of only 2 permanent lodges located inside the South Luangwa National Park; one of the last hidden jewels of Africa. The lodge is comprised of 18 luxury en-suite thatched chalets, each with a private deck overlooking a lagoon that attracts abundant wildlife and game. Elephants visit the lodge regularly.

The deck area in front of the lounge has a swimming pool which also overlooks the main lagoon. In between game drives, walks and meals, guests may relax around the pool or in the unique library which is entirely dedicated to nature conservation related issues, African culture, tradition and history. The library also includes a video library and has its own timber deck which overlooks the main lagoon. Here people can read or write in peace and soak up the tranquility of Africa at its best.

You’ll enjoy extensive game viewing by open safari vehicle on both day and night drives. Covering almost 3,500 square miles, South Luangwa National Park is mostly comprised of woodland, open grasslands and along the river - stands of African ebony. Known as "The Kingdom of the Elephant," the Luangwa Valley once boasted 100,000 elephants. Although they endured enormous losses to poaching during the 1980's, 15,000 elephants still roam the area, making the park a prime destination for viewing these magnificent animals.

Two of the rarer animals sharing the woods and grasslands are the white impala and Thorneycroft's giraffe. Greater Kudu graze along the river and buffalo, zebra, puku, and waterbuck also live off the grasses warily watching out for the lions, leopards, and hyenas.
Overnight - Mfuwe Lodge ( L, D & activities)

DAY 2 - SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK

DAY 3 - SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK
This morning after breakfast you will be transferred by road to the Bilimungwe Bush Camp. Situated in a remote area, it offers not only wonderful solitude , but also the ideal opportunity to discover the Luangwa Valley on foot. Bilimungwe Bush Camp is 50m from the Luangwa River in a large ebony grove along the picturesque banks of the Luangwa River. The camp consists of four reed and thatch chalets with en-suite showers, toilet and double vanities. Each chalet has two queen sized double beds with large mosquito nets and an individual rechargeable lighting system. The rustic dining area and fully stocked bar offer panoramic views of Bilimangwe's water hole and the abundant resident game that it attracts. The thatched dining canopy provides a cool and comfortable environment in which to enjoy this idyllic setting.

Most of the wildlife walks and drives are done down at the Kapamba River, a beautiful, large clear water river. All day drives with picnic lunches are also done into the Luwamfwa area of the park. The area has a resident herd of Roan.

Day 5 - SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK
This morning you will set off “on foot” with your guide, traveling along the 6 Kms walking trail between Bilimungwe and Chindeni. Chindeni is a sister camp to Bilimungwe, but has an altogether different theme and character. The camp nestles on the apex of a permanent oxbow lagoon, offset by the magnificent Nchendeni Hills.

Raised on wooden decking, Chindeni's 4 en-suite luxury tents are outfitted with 2 queen-sized beds, hot and cold running water, shower, toilet, double vanities and polished floors. The lush and wide permanent lagoon, which stretches out from just beneath your own private balcony , allows you to lazily watch the resident big game or simply enjoy the serenity of the lagoon

Ancient ebony trees shade the bar and dining area and an adjacent, gently sloping walkway provides access to a lagoon-side retreat. From here, guests can enjoy an open air dining experience or the spectacular sundown as it reflects from the still waters of the lagoon. Dining options at Chindeni are varied and clients can eat on the main viewing platform deck, or in the dining area, or down by the lagoon.

You’ll spend 2 nights at Chindeni, viewing the game from your own private raised wooden decking over the still waters of the lagoon and exploring the evergreen forests on foot. Surrounded by majestic hills, shaded by ancient ebonies and nestled on the apex of an ox-bow lagoon, Chindeni helps weave the spell that is Africa.
Overnight - Chindeni Bush Camp (all meals & activities)
